January 2024 / June 2025 /
This edit is based on another happy accident that occurred during my 5th viewing.
In order to present some of my photographs, I made multiple power point presentations which kept running on a loop on several macs during the viewing. During my preparations, I tried out different layout versions, and this is when I first gor the inspiration for this edit.
Because I duplicated the base file and mirrored it horizontally, the photo of what originally had been only the top of a house, transformed into something that looked like a floating house instead. I liked this combination a lot, and decided that I have to make an actual/high quality edit in Photoshop sometime in the future.
Due to other priorities I only got to it around 1 1/2 years later, in June 2025. Then almost another year later in May 2026, I fixed some minor issues I had with it during the preparations for my finals exhibition in my last semester at AKI. Additionally I made another version that had some extra grain.
The most recent versions from 2026 are shown above on the top of this page, and beneath this text are the 2025 version, as well as the 2026 version (without grain), each of them accompanied by their respective original photo.
So, this work could be considered as a rather slow burn type of project:
2023 original photo taken in Serbia --------- 2024 spark of the idea --------- 2025 edit V1 --------- 2026 edit V2
2025 - Version 1
This edit was made using the jpg instead of the raw photo (both the original files from my camera), so the resolution was lower and the vignette and the lens distortion from the lens was already "burnt in".
By mirroring this file, the new center of the edited image was left with a dark fade on the edge, as the original vignette got mirrored as well and thereby not only on the outer corners but also on the center-edges.
2026 - Version 2
While I liked the effect of the lens distorion, the mirrored vignette bugged me because it seemed a bit off, and I needed a better resolution for a print. That's why I made this updated version using the raw file, keeping the lens distortion but removing the vignette, correcting the colors to match the jpg verion more closely, and only add the vignette at the end after combining the mirrored anf slightly edited raw photos.
