Spring 2021
Part of the application process for the study 'Lifestyle Transformation Design' at the 'Willem de Kooning Academie', was to pick two out of seven tasks.
One of the tasks I choose is called 'lost and found in translation', and these are the guidelines I followed:
Choose a random item that belongs in or around your house.
Take a map of the world, and draw a straight line across this world map, at a random angle, with your house positioned on the line.
Now make an imaginary journey around the world, along this line. Translate or adapt the chosen item to any country you visit. What colours are used around the world? What materials will your translations be made of? Take into consideration local cultures, traditions, religions, climate, available materials, means of production, economic development, political situation (not all at once of course!) in order to arrive at an adaptation or translation.
Propose a way to exhibit the new translations that you found on your trip around the world. How will this look like? Where will it be? Visualise this.
The pdf at the left bottom shows a conclusion of my results, with three pictures for each country. The second pdf on the right side, gives an overview about my process, sources, plans, and sketches.
