During our Storyboard class, we had to produce a 20-second long soap-commercial - that's funny. For this assignment we had to:
draw a storyboard, color it in photoshop, and make a moving version of it (incl. voice over)
write a treatment
do a test-shoot for a shot that could be tricky
design & make the packaging
shoot the commercial
edit and colorgrade it
After playing around with different ideas, I settled on making the commercial about a soap, which has the attribute to basically fix everything by rubbing it on. I wanted to use an extreme and hyperbolic example, to showcase this seemingly magic so(ap)lution in a ridiculous way.
My favorite part of the video is the packshot, that's also why I choose it as the first video on this page. The test shoot already was a lot of fun, just me in my bathroom, with parts of a shelf on the sink, trying out hundreds of different ways to let the soap slide towards the packaging. And the final outcome looks even more satisfying.
I was able to learn and gain a lot from this project, and even if some things went wrong or could have been better in some way, my lecturer and me are both very happy with how the video turned out.
